Retinol and AHAs & BHAs
Retinol is a potent vitamin A derivative that stimulates skin cell turnover, reduces fine lines, and improves overall skin texture. However, it can be irritating when used with exfoliating acids like AHAs or BHAs. These ingredients can both accelerate skin cell turnover, potentially leading to excessive exfoliation and skin sensitivity.
To avoid irritation, it's recommended to use retinol and AHAs or BHAs on alternate nights or even weeks, especially if you have sensitive skin. PHAs, on the other hand, are a gentler form of exfoliant that can be used with retinol without causing significant irritation. They provide exfoliation benefits while also acting as humectants, helping to hydrate the skin.
